Please be aware in order to access the cantonment area of Fort Pickett a REAL ID is necessary.
BE ADVISED NEW CREEL LIMITS ARE NOW IN EFFECT FOR CHANNEL CATFISH IN ALL FORT PICKETT WATERS
Please be advised that there is currently limited access to all areas south of Hwy. 40 and east of Rt. 46. Please read the new active acknowledgement when checking in for access guidance at this time.

Archery Deer Season begins Sat. 10/4/2025
Hunting/Fishing areas are updated weekly. Each Friday areas will be updated for the upcoming week.
NOTICE FISHERMEN: Fishing in Birchin &Tommeheton Lakes is only allowed by watercraft at this time. No bank fishing is allowed.
Staff do not work full time at the Fort Pickett Game Check Station; for direct/in-person service- please make an appointment with a Fish and Wildlife staff member by calling 434-292-2618, if no answer, please leave a message, we will return your call.
NOTICE: ALL FISHERMEN MUST CHECKIN AND CHECKOUT OF THE FORT PICKETT iSPORTSMAN SYSTEM. FAILURE TO PROPERLY CHECKIN AND CHECKOUT MAY RESULT IN THE SUSPENSION OF YOUR FISHING PRIVILEGES.
: UXO’s and other hazards may be found on Fort Pickett
Recognize – when you may have come across ammunition, and that munitions are dangerous.
Retreat – do not approach, touch, move, or disturb a suspect munition, but carefully leave the area.
Report – immediately what you saw and where you saw it to Range Operations (434) 292-2227 or

Report UXO’s, hazards, concertina wire, open wells, sick/injured animals…
RESERVATIONS CAN BE MADE STARTING AT 5 PM THE DAY PRIOR TO THE HUNTING DAY
RESERVATIONS MUST BE HONORED BY CHECKING INTO YOUR RESERVATION PRIOR TO 8:00 AM ON THE HUNT DAY

FIREWOOD PERMITS WILL BE AVAILABLE OCT 1 FOR THE 2025-2026 SEASON
